Barred Owl

I was able to get a close up on this beauty while walking through Maymont Park

The owl was ready for his closeup. We were walking along the trail looking for a black bear to take pictures of and we couldn't help but take a picture of this beautiful barred owl that seem to have been waiting for this exact moment. Looking to get clearer photos of him in the future.

Downy Woodpecker

Dryobates pubescens

Location: Hopewell Marina                                                      Equipment: Nikon D80 Body Lens: Sigma 70-300mm F Mount
I was walking along the Riverwalk and I found this little beauty. I had a hard time distinguishing its species because the Downy and the Hairy Woodpecker looks so much alike. I was able to see the tail and realize it had spots, a feature only the Downy species has. It's a common bird in most states. Can be found in parks if you look close for it.

A Cold March

I just picked up my Sigma 70-300mm. I heard a knock on the door, while I was brushing my teeth upstairs. I immediately remembered the email for my delivery stated a signature is required. I slide down the rails and down the stairs, viciously opening the door bare bottom only, just boxers and white foam stains on my tee-shirt. The delivery-man surprised, informed me he already signed for me and it was just protocol, otherwise he would have to take it back to the post office. I immediately thanked him with a mouth full of toothpaste and grabbed the package. I couldn't wait to rip off the tape and pop the bubble wrap, but first I had to make sure my Nikon D80 battery charged through the night. I haven't used my camera in over a year. This feeling of having a compatible lens overtook me. I was overcome with joy and adrenaline. After opening my package, it was revealed to me the used camera lenses (3 in total) I ordered for pennies of the dollar were nothing like the description. Apparently photographers can be a little prestigious with their equipment. The description read "ugly and worn" but the equipment I was physically viewing was immaculate and dust free, not even a scratch. I bolted out the door to the nearest bird watching site in my city. I forgot to check the temperature and ran out the door with my college hoodie and my PGA Golf hat with the back cut out for my "man-bun". As my hands froze up like a block of ice I attempted to take pictures of the local Geese and Seagulls by the water. I was a newbie to their ecosystem. They barely budged or saw me as a threat to their survival, mostly because of my "man-bun".
